Neil is a commercial lawyer whose work involves technology transactions (software licensing, IT and BPO services), commercial transactions (vast variety of transactions including media transactions), employment laws (the whole life circle of an employee, from hire to retire/ fire) and privacy laws.  In addition, Neil regularly assists with dispute resolution and assessment of possible dispute outcomes.  

Neil has traditionally worked with large enterprises which have presence in different jurisdictions.  He is equally comfortable in working with smaller businesses.  Although not a large part of his work, Neil represents individual clients on contentious matters and finds working with them to be very fulfilling.  

Here are a few examples of Neil’s work:

  • assistance to a listed Indian FMCG business on commercial transactions, commercial disputes, celebrity contracts, regulatory advice regarding surrogate advertising and online marketplaces, use of NFTs and privacy matters;
  • engagement with an Indian Cricket Premier League team on technology procurement, franchising and marketing collaborations; 
  • establishing a shared services centre in Bangalore for a global FMCG major and assisting the SSC on all legal matters post set up; 
  • preparing license agreements for several technology providers and negotiating the license agreements with customers in multiple jurisdictions; 
  • building contract templates for large banks to help with IT and software procurement; 
  • assisting an Indian EdTech provider in responding to a hacking incident and apprehending the hacker based out of Eastern Europe; 
  • defending multiple pharma companies from an IP infringement claim brought by a single claimant;  
  • advising a German car manufacturer on Indian privacy law implications on the rollout of a new in-car infotainment system; 
  • responding to a complicated employment claim brought against a Bangalore based GCC.  

Neil studied at the National Law School of India University, graduating with a B.A. L.L.B. (Hons.) in 2001. While at law school he was passionate about social change and was an active member of the Legal Services Clinic which uses alternate dispute resolution methods to reach negotiated settlements and helps economically underprivileged sections of the society obtain legal aid.

Outside of work Neil likes traveling and reading a wide variety of books ranging from fiction to contemporary history and politics.  Neil used to run half marathon distances, something that he is trying to get back to.  

Neil is enrolled as an Advocate with the Karnataka State Bar Council.
